To be fair I was not even aware that they were playing. I'm Sky Blue through and through. Just keep an eye on the local teams. For you I will do a special lucky dance just before kick off.

Alty's dream continues...!
We will now play the winners of the Conference South Final at Stoke City's ground to see who gets promotion into the Nationwide Conference.
1 Grays Athletic 42 15 4 2 60 13 15 4 2 58 18 87 98
-------------------------------------------------------------
2 Cambridge City 42 10 3 8 29 25 13 3 5 31 19 16 75

5 Eastbourne Borough 42 10 5 6 38 26 8 5 8 27 21 18 64

Just like with Altrincham, it's the team in 5th place that's got through so it's going to be between us and Eastbourne. (They won the Conference South Play-off Final today 3-0.)

It is a little harsh on teams that are many points above in 3rd but they are the rules and if the boot were on the other foot, so to speak, the other team would not complain.

From Times Online:

Tearful Matthews feeling the pain
By Walter Gammie
Kettering Town 2 Altrincham 3
TWENTY MINUTES AFTER the end of a gruelling but enthralling Nationwide Conference North play-off final at Rockingham Road, Martin Matthews, in kit and flip-flops, came out of the tunnel and flung himself into the corner of the visiting team’s dugout. His face was haunted and his eyes red-rimmed.
He was swiftly followed by Alan Biley, the Kettering assistant manager, who sat next to his player and spoke a few home truths. “Martin has been Mr Kettering,” Biley said. “He has done everything that has been asked of him with aplomb. He has been used and misused, mucked about more than any player. He has played right back, left back, centre back, centre midfield. There are times when he has played superbly well and he has been left on the bench. Not a moan from him.”
Kevin Wilson, the manager, emerged, put an arm round Matthews and led him back to the changing-room, repeating the message given by his assistant: “However difficult it is right now, you’ve got to walk away with head high. It’s not about one moment or three goals but what’s been achieved over the whole season.”
Matthews was still torturing himself with the recollection of deciding the match with a full-length diving header past his own goalkeeper. Tiredness and the capricious wind contributed to his aberration as his instincts that he had to take responsibility for the corner swung in by Colin Potts took over.
In time, wise counsel will prevail. Matthews will remember the afternoon as much for the warmth of the reception he received when presented with a £6,500 testimonial cheque for his seven years’ service and for the generous applause afforded in defeat.
Kettering had scored first with a beautifully crafted left-foot shot by Jamie Paterson. The nous of Val Owen in taking up positions at the edge of the penalty area to punish isolated moments of poor defending gave Altrincham an equaliser and then the lead in extra time. A sharp turn by Mark Danks made space for a pass tapped in by Ollie Burgess to bring Kettering level before Matthews’s misery-inducing mistake.
PLAY-OFFS: FINAL
NATIONWIDE CONFERENCE NORTH/SOUTH
Sunday, May 15
Altrincham v Eastbourne Borough
at the Britannia Stadium, 1pm

From Manchester Evening News...
Non-league football: Steele back from Bermuda for play-offs
Tony Glennon
ALTRINCHAM are paying for their assistant manager, Dalton Steele, to fly back from a business trip to Bermuda so he can be at boss Graham Heathcote's side at Sunday's Nationwide play-off final.
Steele is away working on the paradise island in his job as a health and safety expert.
But he will be winging his way back to Manchester at Alty's expense in time for the Robins' make-or-break clash with Eastbourne at Stoke City's Britannia Stadium, the winners of which will be promoted to the Conference National.
Another who's going out of his way to be with Altrincham is their trusty keeper Stuart Coburn, who has turned down the chance of a two-week trip to the Far East to play in Sunday's showpiece clash.
Coburn had been chosen to go on tour with Middlesex Wanderers - the unofficial England non-League team - but has rejected the invitation to jet off to the Orient in favour of a trip to the Potteries.
The former Leigh star will take his place in what Heathcote hopes will be a full-strength squad, with the obvious exceptions of long-term injury victims Marcus Hallows and Stephen Rose.
But, while recognising the importance of Sunday's game and the sacrifices Steele and Coburn are making to be with Altrincham, Heathcote is doing his utmost to ensure his players don't allow themselves to become carried away by the occasion.
He said: "I know some people are making a big deal out of Sunday and I fully understand why. But the thing I've impressed on the lads is that this isn't a day out in Blackpool, it's our chance to win a match which will take this club back into the Conference.
"We'll be preparing no differently than we do for any other game. Let's go there and get the job done - then we can think about celebrating. After all, we've all summer for that."
Heathcote had Eastbourne watched in their Conference South play-off final victory at Cambridge City.
He added: "Eastbourne will be as desperate to win as we are and we'd be naive to think otherwise."

Yes, very chuffed... particularly since we were 33-1 for promotion at the start of the season. As promised, here's some pictures (and videos) from the game. (To anyone that wants to use my pics/vids... you are welcome to do so, so long as you link to www.aardvarksport.net/chat )
Alty arrive at the Britannia Stadium, Stoke.
Sir Stanley Matthews statue. Matthews made 710 Football League appearances for Stoke and Blackpool.
Alty and Eastbourne line up for the inaugural North versus South play-off final.
Rod Thornley opens the scoring for Alty...!
A few minutes later and deserved man of the match Val Owen adds another.
They think it's all over...
...it is now!
Also a few videos:
Alty have a chance cleared off the line
Eastbourne pull one back with a penalty at the end
ALTY ARE GOIN' UP!
