There are a number of players soon to eligible for England through residency, including Tongan winger Lesley Vainikolo. Nearly all international teams have players not born in the country they represent.

Should something be done?

I've nothing against foreigners but surely national sporting teams should be a place for people born in that country? You'd want Americans in the American national team wouldn't you?

Where exactly did Adi state he had a problem with foreigners? Rolling Eyes

He simply asked 'should something be done?' - he didn't state 'something should be done'.

Anyway... I don't really know what the rules are here (how long do you have to be resident?), but it does strike me as odd that somone can play for a national team if their parents or grandparents have no birth association with the nation concerned.

I think it's 5 years residency. The daft thing is that England have capped players like Henry Paul and Vainikolo who actually played for New Zealand in rugby league so you can't even say they're 'clean' in the sense that Ricky Flutey is because he was never capped by NZ.
