I know this event isn't until November, but anyone got some early tips as to which horses might be in the running for the Melbourne Cup this year?

At this moment two well backed horses are the winners of 2002 and 2003: Media Puzzle and Makybe Diva. Media Puzzle made a satisfying reapparance lately at The Curragh. Papineau, the Ascot Gold Cup winner, and the York's Silver Trophy winner Distinction are also well fancied.

Here's what I found at an ante post betting site:
Best Odds: Makybe Diva (12/1), Media Puzzle (14/1), Papineau (14/1), Wild Iris (14/1), Distinction (16/1), Honor Babe (20/1), Hugs Dancer (20/1), Royal Secret (20/1), Special Harmony (20/1), Vinnie Roe (20/1), Zagalia (20/1), Zingam (20/1), Braeloch (25/1), Darasim (25/1), Elvstroem (25/1), Manawa King (25/1), Zumanity (25/1), Desert War (33/1), Fantastic Love (33/1), Mummify (33/1), Pentastic (33/1), Shes Archie (33/1), Songlark (33/1), Strasbourg (33/1), Wunderwood (33/1) - others 40/1 or more

But there are 291 entries. There's still time until november 2nd, for 'the race that stops a nation.'
