Apparently, according to Wikipedia, it's 40,075.02 km around the world (at the equator). That's 24,901.463 miles.
Just for a bit of fun, I thought we could see if we can collectively run, cycle, swim, row (whatever!) around the world. And no, if you drive to the shops, that doesn't count. It's got to be a sporting activity of some kind or other.
I'll start us off with the 3 miles I ran last night.
Current total: 3 miles
OK, over to the next person... (I have a suspicion it'll be Adi!). Just tell us what you've done, how many miles you covered, and lastly update the total.

* APRIL 2009 UPDATE *
Courtesy of a find by Adi, those participating in this thread can now update our 'ticker' each time you add miles to the tally. This charts our progress 'around the world'. To update, just go to http://www.TickerFactory.com/exercise/wwvuxbS/ and enter 'aardvark' as the pin, and then edit the number of miles accordingly. Thanks. _________________ UK Hotels - UK Selfcatering - UK B&Bs - UK Camping

When are we doing this from?
If it's from the start of the month, ie 2009, then I've done 292.71km so far on the bike. _________________ Talk about the Environment |

I suppose we could start from the beginning of the year.
You've clocked 181.9 miles there, Adi (knew we could count on you for some proper miles! ). Prior to today, I've run a total of 28.0 miles. And today, I've walked approximately a mile up near Haweswater and run about 5 miles.
So that gives us a revised total so far of: 215.9 miles
From now, I think we ought to only take mileages from when people join the board. ie. if someone joins 1st November 2009, they can post their mileages from that date onwards, not everything they've done so far that year up to that date. (Anyone who's already a member here can post anything they've done since 1st Jan 2009.)
Who'd like to hazard a guess as to how long this is going to take before we've gone round the world?

Will have added another 80 miles or so by the end of today
As for how long it'll take, bloody ages with just us two I should probably do around 3-4,000 miles this year. Need a few more people doing it. _________________ Talk about the Environment |

8.1 mile run from me tonight so...
Updated total: 224.0 miles
If all goes to plan, I'll clock a further 557 miles of running by mid May, and maybe a little on top with cross training. We could certainly do with a few more endurance cyclists around here. _________________ UK Hotels - UK Selfcatering - UK B&Bs - UK Camping |

160km = 99.4 miles, yeah?
So that brings the combined Aardvark member tally to 323.4 miles. By the end of next week we ought to have done 1/100th of it. _________________ UK Hotels - UK Selfcatering - UK B&Bs - UK Camping |

Maybe... you need to invite your cycling chums. You know, the ones who say 400km is just like a stroll in the park. _________________ UK Hotels - UK Selfcatering - UK B&Bs - UK Camping |

Didn't do so much this week, only around 90km. Had a tumble after the bike hit some ice on Saturday so licking my wounds for the race next weekend. _________________ Talk about the Environment |
